A Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) is a third-party company that provides outsourced cybersecurity services to organizations.

MSSPs offer a range of security services including 24/7 security monitoring, threat detection and response, vulnerability management, compliance reporting, and security infrastructure management.

Organizations typically engage MSSPs to supplement their internal security capabilities or to handle security operations entirely when they lack the resources, expertise, or budget to maintain comprehensive cybersecurity programs in-house. MSSPs operate Security Operations Centers (SOCs) staffed with cybersecurity analysts who monitor client networks around the clock, investigate security incidents, and respond to threats.

Common MSSP services include managed firewall administration, intrusion detection and prevention, security information and event management (SIEM), endpoint detection and response (EDR), and managed threat hunting. Many MSSPs also provide consulting services, security assessments, and incident response capabilities.

The MSSP model allows organizations to access enterprise-grade security expertise and technology at a fraction of the cost of building equivalent capabilities internally.
