Overview: Kerberos

Quick Definition

Kerberos is a computer-network authentication protocol most commonly used in Microsoft’s Active Directory. It uses a ticket system to allow communication between nodes over non-secure networks, proving their identity to each other using a trusted third party. While nearly all organizations are currently using Kerberos in on-premise Active Directory networks, the security industry is working to leave Kerberos behind for more modern authentication protocols like OAuth 2.0.
