This approach addresses the fundamental weakness of point-in-time authentication: the assumption that the authenticated user remains the same person for the entire session. Continuous identity assurance systems typically employ behavioral biometrics, such as typing patterns, mouse movements, and interaction rhythms, along with environmental factors like device characteristics and network location to create an ongoing confidence score about user identity.

When the system detects anomalies or behaviors inconsistent with the authenticated user's established patterns, it can trigger additional verification steps, reduce access privileges, or terminate the session entirely.
