Organizations typically engage MSSPs to supplement their internal security capabilities or to handle security operations entirely when they lack the resources, expertise, or budget to maintain comprehensive cybersecurity programs in-house. MSSPs operate Security Operations Centers (SOCs) staffed with cybersecurity analysts who monitor client networks around the clock, investigate security incidents, and respond to threats.

Common MSSP services include managed firewall administration, intrusion detection and prevention, security information and event management (SIEM), endpoint detection and response (EDR), and managed threat hunting.
