Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH)
The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, or HITECH Act, promotes the adoption of electronic health record (EHR) systems for efficiency, privacy, and security in the storage and exchange of healthcare data.
Adopted as a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, the act offers incentives to encourage healthcare providers and organizations to modernize and adopt contemporary information technology systems.
