Do I need DLP?

If you operate a business or are an organization that handles sensitive data then yes, you need data loss prevention (DLP).

Note that sensitive data doesn't just mean government secrets or private healthcare records—it can mean anything that shouldn't be shared with the general public.

For most companies and organizations, this can include all kinds of data—operational and financial records, trade secrets and intellectual property, even just everyday information that would negatively affect the organization if it was disseminated.

Contrary to what many imagine, your data isn't safe just because your organization requires strong passwords or multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Those technologies are designed to ensure that strangers can't access your systems directly—but they do nothing to ensure that your employees don't email, share, copy, or otherwise provide inappropriate data to third parties. This is what DLP is designed to do—to stop sensitive data from "leaving" your systems inappropriately, no matter who is actually making the attempt.

In cases where, for example, and employee might email or share a sensitive document with a third party, no login protection will prevent the issue. DLP, however, will detect that this is information that should likely not be shared and will block the sending or sharing attempt.

Whether you adopt the affordable, powerful Plurilock AI DLP platform or some other DLP platform, for most companies and organizations, DLP should be considered a required basic security technology.
